Congratulations Ring of Moss

August 2, 2026 will stand out in the memories of those who attended the Meeting for Practice of Business (MPB). Thanks to the 13 of us.

Why is this a momentous occasion?  Because those in attendance came to One Mind to move forward to:

1) renovate the historic barn into our zendo and

2) name it, Ring of Moss Zendo.

How did we get to this historic moment in the history of Ring of Moss?  With a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, hard work, faith, doubt, and the support of too many folks to mention here by name.

To the sangha members who attended the MPB back in Dec. 2024 and came to One Mind about accepting moving forward with the purchase of the Mason Farm Property (no relation to Andrew. To the sangha members who attended the May 2026 MPB and came to One Mind, approving the architectural design for the 2 story zendo in the barn.

To all those who demolished and renovated the historic house, who practiced samu with no thought of monetary compensation, no one ended up in the hospital with broken bones,  we all washed off the paint and sweat from our bodies and clothes, and massaged our aching muscles. Through all of this we built a sangha and earned bragging rights that this is our Ring of Moss zendo.

Ring of Moss has existed for more than 30 years, starting in members’ homes, landing on 13th Ave in Andrew’s home for many years, moving around during the Covid years,  sitting alone in our homes or a 2-day sesshin during Covid, discovering zoom, landing in Milwaukie on Floss Street in 2021, and moving to 8835 42nd Ave. on March 4 in the renovated 1916 historic house.  And here we are!

Since the sangha approved the proposal to move forward with the the next two phases of the barn project, we have the following things to look forward to:

Next Steps

  • Identifying someone to serve as our Fundraising Tracker to monitor and record ongoing fundraising efforts.

  • Engaging a structural engineer to conduct the engineering required for construction design.

  • Requesting firm commitments from current leadership pledges. (Phase 1)

  • Engaging in a “Community Campaign" to secure additional commitments from the broader sangha to better project overall revenue.

  • Engaging the architect and general contractor to produce construction drawings and submit permits for construction with a lift moved to a later phase, based on structural calculations verifying the existing schematic design.

  • Identifying cost-saving reductions for project cost.

  • Authorizing the Business and Finance Committee to advance the project to Construction between MPB meetings if we have 95% of projected revenue to expenses.

Please let us know if you’d like to help out by tracking our fundraising efforts on a database and/or make a financial contribution to close the current gap. THANKS!
